Britax G4 Series is an update on the Britax 70-G3 series with a few changes and improvements while remaining structurally similar
Britax G4 Series
In late 2013, Britax updated their convertible car seats from the 70-G3 series to the Britax G4 line. Both generations are structurally very similar, with a few changes and improvements in the Britax G4 series.
Specifications for all convertible car seats in the Britax G4 series are as follows:
- Rear Facing Weight of 5 to 40 lbs
- Forward Facing Weight from 1 year & 20 up to 65 lbs
- Rear Facing Seated Shoulder Height of 9” to 16.75”
- Forward Facing Seated Shoulder Height of 12” to 16.75”
- Height of 49” or less
Changes and Improvements in Britax G4 Series
The 70 has been removed from the name after the listed weight limit has been decreased from 70 to 65 pounds due to stricter vehicle safety testing standards implemented by the NHTSA in 2014.
The Britax G4 Convertible Car Seats include an infant positioning pillow which must be used up to 22 pounds before it can be removed. The pillow ensures infants are fitted to the harness properly.
There is an update in the HUGS design, i.e., wavy patterns were added to the front for prevention of children from moving the chest clips up or down on their own.
Britax has stitched a handy indicator line on the seat for maximum shoulder height, showing at a glance when a child has outgrown the seat rear-facing and should be installed forward-facing.
The informational seat stickers have been color coded in the Britax G4 line to make them easier to check at a glance, i.e., blue for rear-facing info, green for forward-facing and red for booster seat. This is primarily to keep parents from having to dig out the instruction manual.
Dimensions and Weight
The Britax Advocate G4 has been slimmed down a bit, from a width of 22” to 20.5”, for freeing up some room in the back seat for car passengers or additional car seats while the Britax Roundabout G4 has dropped weight from 20.8 lbs to 17.6 lbs, for a welcome change should travel with it is planned.
